I often meet people, -just like you-, asking this question:
“Is there a meaning to my life?”

Not long ago I had a talk with a very nice director of a bank who said:
“We´ve been deceived.” “When we grew up we´re told that there was no God.
The communism was the answere to all our questions”. He took a little pause
and looked at me as he continued: “Now the communism is gone….”

He was right. He had been, -as millions of others-, deceived. He was left behind
with a big black hole inside his soul and with a lot of questions that needed to
find an answere. We had a nice talk together, and I hope and believe that it helped
him finding the answere.

But if there is no God.
Then there is no creator.
And if there is no creator,
Then there is no creation.
In this perspective, where we as human beeing are presentet only as the most
high-standing mammal, life becomes so empty and meaningless.
Some people even believe that it all started with a “Big Bang”.

We are for sure deceived. –And every day in schools all over the world, children
and youngsters are presented these ideas as if they were the truth. No wonder that
emptiness and meaninglessness has become the worlds most widespread disease.
No wonder you feel that emptiness inside of you.

But, my friend, I have good news for you!
There is a God, -and the Bible tells us that He is Love!
Already on the first page in the Bible we can read where God said: “Let Us make man
in our own image, according to Our likeness, and let them rule over the fish of the sea
and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every
creeping thing that creeps on the earth. And God created man in His own image,
in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.” Gen. 1; 27-27.

My friend, We are not only created by God, -We have even been created in His image.
God has created each and every one of us for a purpose. God spoke to the prophet
Jeremiah and said: “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you
were born I consecrated you; I have appointed you a prophet to the nations.”
Jer. 1; 5.In the same way as God formed Jeremiah and had a plan for his life,
God has formed you and have a plan for your life. King David confirms this as
he writes in one of his Psalms: “Thine eyes have seen my unformed substance;
And in Thy book they were all written, the days that were ordained for me, when
as yet there was not one of them.” Ps. 139; 16.

But you might ask: “If God has a plan for my life, why do I experience life so
meaningless and empty”?

My friend: It is not enough that God has a plan. The fact is that your life is brought
into darkness and meaninglessness due to sin. Like the director of the bank that
I met;
You have been deceived! First of all you must find your way back to Gods plan
for your life. But something is hindering you, -Your sin.
The Apostle Paul explaines this in his letter to the church in Rome:
“All have sinned and falled short to the glory of God.” Rom. 3; 23.
A few pages later he writes: “For the wages is sin is death.” Rom. 6; 23a.
But he quickly adds: “But the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.”
Rom. 6; 23b.

In the midst of your hopelessness the Word of God comes to you and gives you hope.
And this is the incredible, - That God in His love wants to forgive you your sin, and even
wipe it out. Then He wants to give you a brand you start for your life. The Apostle Paul
puts it this way: “Therefore if any man is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things
passed away; behold new things have come.” 2.Cor. 5; 17.
This is due to the great love of God in Jesus Christ. “He (God) loved us and sent His Son
to be the propitiantion for our sins.” 1.John 4; 10.

But you might ask: “How can I experience this great miracle in my life?”
Again, -I have good news for you. The Evangelist John puts it this way:
“As many as received Him (Jesus), to them He gave the right to become children of God,
even to those who believe in His name.” John 1; 12. By other words:
You must receive Jesus as your Saviour and Lord. Then, -and only then-,
you will be able to find Gods plan for your life.

As a conclution, let me again quote the Prophet Jeremiah that will be like beems of light
and hope to you: “For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare
and not for calamity to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon Me and come
to pray to Me, and I will listen to you.” Jer. 28; 11-12.

If you experience this emptiness in your life, but of all your heart wants to find Gods plan
for your life, I like to invite you to pray this prayer with me right now:

Dear God and Heavenly Father.
I come to you in the name of Jesus Christ.
Receive me, forgive me and clense me from all my sins.
And as you do,
I thank you God that you will give me the right to become your child.
I thank you that you have a wonderful plan for my life
that will give me future and hope.
Help me Lord, My God, to find that plan.
I thank you that you have heared my prayer
and that I now can be called a child of God.

May God Bless You,
Oeystein Sandtorv
